The Cost Consultant, Mechanical will provide a variety of cost consulting services to new and existing clients as directed by the managing senior staff member.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of cost estimating and project management services to new and existing clients
  • Inspect and assess mechanical elements throughout various building and infrastructure projects
  • Collaborate with various internal/external partners to obtain the necessary information to prepare reports
  • Preparing estimates at various stages of the design process, from conceptual design to pre-tender stage
  • Assisting in the pricing of estimates and tender analysis
  • Completion of design efficiency analysis, along with full trade and elemental take-off

  • Lifecycle Analysis (cost estimate, current condition, remaining life, maintenance cost, etc.)

  • Managing client relationships in a manner that leads to contract renewal, referrals and service expansion including up-sells and cross-sells
  • Achieve the goals within the parameters set for financial, time and people resources
  • Some overnight travel may be required on an as needed basis

  • Experience with CostX software and Sharepoint is an asset

  • Maintain large working files as supporting documentation for estimating figures including current, accurate information on prices from venders through exclusive contact, marketing material, pre-existing price lists, etc.

Skills and Competencies

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Cost Estimation role on new build commercial and residential construction projects.
  • Ability to use cost-estimating software to prepare quantity takeoffs, cost quotes and bids with proficiency in at least one commercially used cost estimating software application

  • Ability to lead by example and set standard of professionalism
  • Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office, Timberline, MS Project, Insite)

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience cost estimating for commercial and light industrial projects
  • Formal education in construction (Diploma/Certificate) is considered an asset; An engineering, Quantity Surveying or accounting related degree and/or relevant experience would be an asset
